Northwich and District Heritage Society was established as a registered charity in September 1985.
However, it had been in the making for some years before that, as a result of the efforts of John Chesworth, who was determined to create an organisation dedicated to the history and heritage of his home town. Encouraged by the Northwich Town Council, in late 1984, he headed a Steering Committee comprised of like-minded individuals and representatives of local organisations including the Weaver Hall Salt Museum.
The Northwich and District Heritage Society was established. John then led the way to charitable status and served for two years as its inaugural chairman.
Since those early days the Society has grown in strength. It now boasts about 300 members and meets roughly once per month between October and June in Hartford.

The story of Wirral – Ken Pye will take us on a rapid ride through this wonderful peninsula from invasions by Romans, Vikings and Normans through to how the rural life of Wirral adjusted to the Industrial Revolution and the development of its important city neighbour across the Mersey. This talk brings us right up to date with modern Wirral and its ambitions for the rest of the 21 century.

The story of Jabez Thompson, and his Terracotta manufacturing company based in Northwich. This largely forgotten industry provided ornamental terracotta items for many buildings, not only in Northwich, but also further afield. This booklet is generously illustrated with many photographs, mostly in full colour.

We have moved to a new venue
There is car parking for up to 130 cars down the road opposite the School on the left hand side of Oak Grange, the new McCarthy & Stone flats.
There is a drop off point at the front of the School.
We hope that you find this a very comfortable venue with easy access to all areas.
At the end of 2015, the Northwich & District Heritage Society invited primary schools in the Northwich area to enter artwork depicting any aspect of Northwich's salt industry heritage. By the closing date in March, we had nearly 300 individual entries.
